It is a lazy, rainy afternoon so here I am relaxing and taking it easy, surfing the web to see what is going on in the world. Of course I would end up on a "health" section at whichever site I was visiting; would I be me if I didn't? I came across an interesting article discussing breakfast cereal... now, I have to be totally honest: we were pretty much raised on General Mills and Kellogg's in mornings, trying to shovel as much in as we could before we all made mad-dashes out the door to catch the bus - and we loved it. Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Crisp, even Frosted Mini-Wheats, and the best part: cereal was the perfect breakfast food, enriched with minerals and vitamins, eaten with milk which is sooo good for your bones - good for us and tastes good! Well, as more and more research comes out it turns out that what we thought was great is really not, that all those synthetic minerals really don't counter the evil of the sugar. I think we all know that if you can see sugar in the picture on the box it is bad, but the real reason I think this article even piqued my interest is because it lists cereals that are generally believed to be the healthiest around as bad, including Raisin Bran, Multi-Bran Chex, Smart Start and granola. It got me thinking, and I don't know whether that is a good or bad thing just yet.
Honey is quite possibly the most amazing thing any insect has ever set out to do in the history of this planet, and I am prepared to argue with anyone who disagrees. I am allergic to a bee's sting, but the honey he creates more than makes up for any hard feelings I'd ever have. There is nothing I love more first thing in the morning than enjoying my cup of tea, sitting quietly, collecting my thoughts and evaluating my plan for the day in the precious few minutes before the house is buzzing with activity and excitement that each new day brings. What is actually an hour feels like only scant minutes, but there is just something about holding a warm mug in my hand that helps comfort me. My absolute favorite tea is Trader Joe's (we love TJ's) Pomegranate White Tea - which claims it is a antioxidant powerhouse - but it is so bitter! I do not sweeten most of my food, but for this I absolutely must. I don't use sugar or any other sugar substitutes but I loooooooooooooooove honey! I used to buy the kind in that cute bear - bears love honey you know, especially Pooh - and drizzle it in my tea. I felt so good about starting the day out so right - but then discovered that not all honey is created the same, and that cute little bear was starting to look more like a little devil.
