This is an old workout that I'd done almost 2 years ago to the date, I had done it just before I'd started this blog but I really loved it so I'm happy to be able to share it with you guys here... even thought he second ladder is KILLER!!! It had my heart racing and sweat was pouring off of me, loveloveloved it! For me this workout was less than 20 minutes, but I am willing to bet at least an hour's worth of work was done! I am going to give you the workout breakdown and then explain to you how I did it:
How a ladder works: you work it like a circuit, so you are alternating exercises started at 10 reps for each, then you move down the ladder doing 9, 8, 7, .... until you do only 1 rep for all exercises. I did take breaks, especially during the second ladder, but my goal was to finish a full circuit before I would allow myself a rest... but I did have to take breaks in the middle of the circuit :o)... IT WAS DIFFICULT! For the KBHPs and Thrusters, I used the heaviest bell I possibly could without losing form. In the second ladder, you can see that I was using a few 'bells - I started with 12kg and as the reps got lower I raised the weight to 14kg, and then ended the last 4 rungs with 16kg. In the first ladder I didn't move up in weight because 16kg was killing me even at 3 reps... I was not expecting that! You do not need kettlebells for this workout so if you don't have them it's okay, but it works best and really amps up calorie-burn if you have something heavy that you can use in place of them.
Don't be shy!!! I want to know what you think about this workout, or other workouts, what you'd like to see, what your favorite exercises are - basically, I would just love to hear from you your thoughts and opinions! :) Have an awesome week everyone! The Superbowl is in town and we are planning to go downtown and join in the festivities by the weekend. I promise to take lots of good pictures and share them with you... any Giants or Patriot fans out there? My husband is a die-hard Brady fan, but I am rooting for Eli Manning... gotta have one of the Mannings with the SB when it's in town! ;-)

The camera is working again, WOOHOO!!! I know that it's hard to imagine what the workouts should look like, so I'm happy to be able to provide some visuals again for you guys. :) And I just couldn't help continuing with the beach theme... this is from one of my favorite moments with Daniel when we went on our 10 year anniversary vacation to Hawaii. We were the only ones on the beach, and the weather was perfect. I took this picture so that I would always remember the view that we had from our spot on the beach - and what you see shows that there was nobody around us for miles. :)

isn't hawaii FANTABULOUS..... I WENT there several years ago with my oldest son. WE had a blast...
hey you still want a headwarmer???? let me know... so i guess i might try this workout, or the one before this. I did a PR with deadlift yesterday, so i have to watch what i'm doing, i'm clear up to 120 for 2 reps ha ha, but i'm good with that.
happy to see you, take care

CONGRATS ON THE PR!!!! That is fabulous, and so much heavier than I can lift.
Yes, I do girlie! You should get the check soon
Forgive me for not commenting. Yes, I'm guilty of watching the video's and not posting. I love , love, love, love, love the last workout you posted. Tabata & flip squats. First of all I didn't know what a kettlebell flip squat was . Had to look it up. Then I thought hmmmmm interesting and challenging . On paper the workout looks easy. That's where easy ends. I used a 8kg kettlebell for the flips and a 12 kg for the lunges . Fantastic feeling upon completion. I've done the workout twice. It's become a favorite . Thanks again for all the effort and time you take to post these workouts and your never ending inspiration .

Thanks so much for your comment, it really is motivating to feel connected to people all over the place. We may not be in the same time zone, but we are all united in our interest! :)

I used a 12 pound Everlast soft exercise ball for the slam balls. I know someone who used a bouncy med ball for this exercise and she got pounded in the face - so there's a little warning for you if you have the bouncy balls.
Have fun with the workout and let me know what modifications you made (if any) so that I can include them in future workouts. :)

Congrats on finishing your exams, by the way. I hope all went well! You asked me a log while ago (sorry!!!) what I study, and I have just finished my master in law. I guess nurses and lawyers will always be needed no matter how bad the financial situation gets, huh:)
Best wishes! (And please keep up the good work on publishing workouts etc - they are greatly appreciated all around the world;))
lol, yes: nurses, lawyers and plastic surgeons
Thanks for everything Elle!

This is the first time doing one of your workouts. It looks tough but I am excited to try. I don't have a medicine ball so any suggestions for alternatives to the slam balls?

This looks like a KILLER indeed! Might be a wee challenge for me to try!
Need to get a med ball.
Miss you Missy xoxo
I am afraid to see you with a med-ball... you will probably create some crazy killer strength workout with a 40# one!
I am just getting started on my fitness road and I had never even heard of ladders, but they look very effective and simple. I will have to try this one to see how far I can get!
I appreciate what you are doing and look forward to more learning and sweating!

I first heard of ladders almost 2 years ago when I started getting into Crossfit. I really love this format because as the workout progresses it gets easier but you still finish with your heart pumping out of your chest!
I have two BIG DOGS so I get some dino-sized poo in my back yard - I can totally relate! It's hard not to laugh
I am so impressed with your time, 4 minutes faster than mine!!!!!!!!! And you did 15 flights of stairs after?
My legs feel ok lol, but i was aching in some areas like my chest where i don't usually ache. I felt really good aswell, during and after. I enjoyed the structure of the workout.
Ive got an idea for a workout for you, I first found it on workingclassfit ness.com. Its called anaerobic blackjack 20 burpees 1 divebomber 19-2, 18-3 and so on, ive never done it properly with divebombers all the way through nasty, nasty workout. Im gassing big time here lol.
I modified the pushups when I could not do a regular pushup anymore.
Awesome workout!
