Fat Terminator

These past couple of weeks have been chaotic - and I am starting to see that I just need to get used to the fact that chaotic is just the way life is going to be for the next couple of years until I graduate. Some really fun news though: as most of you probably know, Indianapolis hosted this year's Super Bowl and IT WAS SUCH A BLAST! We went downtown to do the NFL Experience in the Convention Center (which was lame and we will not do it again) and the people were amazing. Indiana has a reputation for having this great Hoosier hospitality, but I really enjoyed talking to the visitors. Everyone was in a great mood and the atmosphere was incredible; we met people from New York, Massachusetts, Washington state, Florida, California... just all over! Dan wore his Tom Brady - and the Patriots are our BITTER ENEMIES! - so he did get some heckles, and I proudly wore my Colts shirt and gave high-fives to everyone that made fun of my husband... just like a good wife should. ;-) We saw some famous people which never happens here in Indiana... well, I guess we do see some athletes, but most notably we passed Chris Evans on the sidewalk - Chris Evans plays Captain America and Johnny Storm in Fantastic 4. I don't get all googly-eyed over movie starts, but I have to say that Chris Evans is BEAUTIFUL in real life - I mean STUNNING. His eyes are so brilliantly bright... and this is exactly the part where Daniel started making fun of him and rolling his eyes at me. LOL, jealous much? :p I hope you enjoy the pictures I posted below the workout, the entire city was so proud to be able to host one of the biggest events in sports.

I made sure that I did a really good and thorough warm-up before I did this workout because I haven't done a workout this intense for a really long time. I did some Turkish get-ups and ran through the circuit one time through with light weights and moderate effort to make sure that everything was warm and loose. I had to name this workout Fat Terminator because it is an incredible interval workout and it worked me over BIG TIME! I had a tough time getting through the final Tabata, and the only reason why I could finish it is because I knew that the intervals were short and I only had to do each exercise TWO TIME ONLY! I put my reps during the workout next to the exercises.

  1. Workout:
  2. timer set for :20/:40 x 23 rounds
  • Double Kettlebell Snatch w/ 2x 8kg (16, 17, 18, 16)
  • Mountain Climbers (46, 43, 44, 32)
  • Goblet Squats w/ heavy weight(16, 15, 14, 15)
  • Burpees (10, 10, 10, 9)
  • Skipping Rope (I never count these, I lose track :p)
  • rest (YAAAAY!!! this was much needed)
  1. Cash Out:
  2. Tabata, timer set for :10/:20 x 8 rounds
  3. repeat each exercise twice in a row
  • Single Snatch, left then right w/ 12kg (9, 10)
  • Mountain Climbers (34, 21)
  • Burpees (5, 4)
  • Skipping Rope

And IT'S DONE!!! Less than 30 minutes, but it is soooo intense! I had a hard time catching my breath during the workout, but I love knowing that workouts like this increase your aerobic capacity and make your body more efficient at utilizing oxygen and burning fat. :D

Please let me know how you did with this workout - especially if you beat me! If you need any help with modifications, I will do what I can to help but it really is best to see a personal trainer so that they can align your body properly.

I hope that you enjoy the pictures below! Have a great week everyone; until next time! :)

I just wanted to let you know that I love your workouts. I personally don't like to put the workouts together..I think it's a time issue for me, so I always look forward to your posts. You do the same types of exercises I do and I love the way you put them together!!! Thank you for posting!

hey i had a question you have written down 25 rounds, but if there are only five moves in the first group of exercises, how does that work. ha ha

There are 4 rounds of the 6 intervals (the 5 exercises plus the rest), and because the last round in the circuit is a rest period I didn't feel the need to add an extra round in the timer. I hope that makes sense. :)

Melissa,
i think you are ready today to buy that summer swimsuit. You look great. Please keep sending these workouts my way because really enjoy them. One other thing, loose the Cubs jersey and get a St. Louis Cardinal one. Then someday you will be able to attend a world series for your team. Just kidding.

I will never lose the Cubs jersey!!! I still remember that game in August against the Pirates in 1988... MARK GRACE WAS SAFE, the ump is BLIND!!!! They should have won the world series that year, I'll never forget. Dunston, Sandburg, Chico Walker, "Wild Thing" Maddux, Sutcliffe, Martinez... I know I"m forgetting some of the guys, but THEY SO SHOULD HAVE WON!!!

I will never lose hope

I just realized... that was 24 years ago. Holy crap, I'm getting old!

I'm not ready for summer yet... still have to go shoe shopping

Thanks for another great workout! I really enjoy your posts. They keep me motivated! Just curious, what kind of warm-up and cool down do you do? I tend to keep my warm-up short (5min) and intense with just a quick stretch; and I barely bother with a cool down (short on time...) No wonder my flexibility needs work. LOL!

Hey Maggie! :) I don't have a set routine for warming up or cooling down (shhhh, don't tell anyone!) Normally for warm ups I do a few Turkish get-ups, probably 5 minutes worth, and some squats to loosen up my hips. I run through the exercises I am using in the workout a few times at 5-10 reps each exercise at a lighter weight until I feel nice and loose. It probably takes me about 7 minutes to warm up. For a cool down I just walk around until my heart rate comes back down (I'm not big on cool-downs either ) and then I do some stretches. I have found that with kettlebells most of the exercises you do are good for strength AND flexibility so I don't have to stretch like I used to when I was lifting traditional weights. I do yoga at least once a week, though, and that gives my back/shoulders and hamstrings more of a stretch - I really need that because I also run 3x a week. I hope that helps! :)

Hugs,
Melissa

Melissa, I did this workout yesterday & it was GREAT! I'm like Robyn, so I really enjoy your workouts.

Regarding the burpees, I am tall 5-8, with long legs. I find that I have to open my knees more than you do to jump forward flat footed the way you do. Do you think this is because of my height/ long legs? How tall are you? You make it look soooo easy, but it is sooooo NOT!!!

How far/long do you run when you run? Outside or on treadmill.

Finally, I loved the pictures! Looks like you had a great time. My parents live in Sullivan,Indian a, so I travel from where I live in Greenville, SC 5-6 times a year to visit them. Maybe I'll bump into you sometime! My friend who got me into kettlebells lives in Terre Haute, IN, so we always do a workout together when I go up to see my parents. I gave her one of my best cats when he decided to express his disapproval of the new orphan kittens by spraying. He's never sprayed her house, & when I go to workout with her, I get to see the big fat kitty!

Keep the super workouts coming! I look forward to them.

I am 5'4" with shorter legs and a looooong waist! I haven't taken anatomy/physiology or kinesiology yet but I bet that having long legs does make a big difference in how the exercise is executed, it really makes sense. Well, I guess the harder it is the more calories you burn, right?

I normally don't run further than 5k, normally I do 3k in the morning. I will do my long run on a day that I don't have weight training (I'm doing Enter the Kettlebell: cleans, presses and pull-ups). If I run outside it's on a flat surface, but on icky days I run on the treadmill and I almost always make it hilly and I'll watch a nature show so it feels like I'm in the Amazon.

Aww, I love big fat cats! We can't have any because Daniel is allergic (but I secretly think he just says he's allergic because he just doesn't like cats). I don't even know where Sullivan is - it sounds like it would be south? I am just outside of the Indianapolis border... are you from here or did your parents move?

I hope that fat kitty isn't still spraying

Hugs,
Melissa

Sullivan is about 90 minutes SW of Indy--toward Vincennes. My parents moved there when I was 16. I went away to college & stayed down south after graduating, teaching school for 23 years. I'm Elaine ######### on Facebook...would love to be friends there, too. You are so sweet to do the workouts for us. I really enjoy them!!!

Oh, yeah--what are you studying in school! Glad you're going! The BFK is not spraying any more. I took him up there in March & just before Christmas, he got attacked by a coyote. The vet thought he might have to amputate BFK's leg, but he didn't & the kitty has recovered pretty well.

Awesome!!! It's hard to stay consistent when you are working shifts like that, but any little bit you can do is 100% better than nothing - and 44 pull-ups is fantastic!

We are all doing well, I hope that it is well with you too :)
