Swinging to Melt Fat

The indulgence of the SINFULLY delicious food that is provided for us in the  holidays that we celebrate in November and December spell complete disaster for our weight loss goals, and I am big on taking care of yourself and love doing no-sugar challenges but I also believe that you HAVE TO LET LOOSE TOO! I don't expect to lose the weight I've gained until after Christmas because I want to enjoy my grandma's cooking, the cookie exchanges, the hot cider and holiday breads. And the truffles. I will kick my diet into full gear after the holidays, but right now it's about enjoying and celebrating with the people around you. However, I still want to do killer workouts. ;-)

This is a variation of the swing workout, made strictly to make my heart pound and burn fat. What I love about the swing is that it works every single body part: quads, outer calves, glutes, hammies, hips, core, back, shoulders, bis... it's incredible! This workout was also a mental challenge because even though it's only 20 minutes there were so many times that I wanted to stop because it got HARD. I did move down to a lighter weight for two sets of swings but I made myself go back up the the 16kg for the next round. I kept telling myself "This is only for 6/4 minutes. I can do this! I'm already halfway there!" and I absolutely made it through to the end - and felt SO GOOD ABOUT COMPLETING IT!!! I will do this workout 2 times a week until the end of December because I know that it will make my heart stronger and it makes me feel great when I am done.

  1. Workout 1:
  2. 10/50 x 6 rounds (rest/work)
  3. 12 Swings, followed by Squat Thrusts
  4. 12 Swings, followed by Goblet Squats w/ 12kg
  5. Alternate rounds
  1. Workout 2:
  2. 10/20 x 8 rounds (rest/work)
  3. Swings
  4. Skipping Rope
  5. Alternate rounds

REPEAT!

The only breaks I took were the 10 second breaks in each round and I only gave myself enough time to rest in order to change the timer. Very important ********FORM IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN REPS!!!******** Whenever I felt my form slipping, I always slowed down. An injury is not worth it!

Now I am off to have my green smoothie and study for my finals - I'm so happy that the semester is almost over!!!!! :)

HEY!

I can't remember where I got my rope or even what brand it is, either, but I have to tie a knot near both of the handles because it's too long (I will not admit that I'm too short ) What don't you like about your rope? Maybe we can fix it :)

HUGS! So happy to see you here :)

Hi Leny, good to see you! You just do the Goblet squats/squat thrusts until the timer sounds for the 10 second break. I averaged 8 ST and 6 GS per round :)

Hugs,
Melissa

I'm trying this tomorrow! Aren't there two different styles of swing and is one more taxing? Or burns more fat? I know I've seen some that have almost no hip snap.

I'm doing this workout today! :P

The Hard Style swing is much more intense, has a strong hip snap and is more labor intensive (for me anyways). The Gym Style swing is used for efficiency and endurance so that is the one that *probably* would be the one that burns less calories. I can't say for sure which burns more calories, but I would guess HS.

I just found you on youtube and have read some of your posts and plan to read all and watch the videos. Im a 65 yr old diabetic. Im hoping using kettlebells will give me strength and keep my bg in line. Maybe even make it so I could eat a cookie or two, maybe! Thanks for putting yourself out there! (I read the riot act post LOL good for you)

Hahaha, thanks!!!!!

All activity helps, and I hope that KBs will help you. They are such a great workout in such a short period of time and they do sooooo much!

Hugs
Melissa

p.s. Don't do anything without your doctor's approval (obviously ;-)) But did you know that after an intense workout is the best time to have a cookie?

I have been working on weightloss for a long time. I only have one kettlebell currently, but I did try the first part of this workout. Actually was able to do true squat thrusts. I'm still 270 lbs so this is an accomplishment for me. I need to look through your archives and see what others I can try. I am a beginner in the field of kettle bells. Thanks so much.
